Title: New Haywards Heath Brewery Launches at the Broadway Village Fete
Haywards Heath has a new brewery called ‘Heathen Brewers’, based at the Grape & Grain off-licence and delicatessen on The Broadway. The brewery was launched officially by Haywards Heath Mayor, Sandy Ellis, during the Broadway Village Fete last Sunday.
Sandy, pictured cutting the ribbon on a firkin of the first brew, was very complimentary about the venture, commenting “Thank you for the invitation to launch the new local micro brewery and ales. It was fun opening that first barrel. The ones we tasted were so lovely and we wish everyone involved a great success. I am sure you will have a very bright future if those beers were an example of things to come”.
Amanda Brackley of Broadway bar Savannah said “We welcome the opportunity to sell locally produced real ales and look forward to offering Heathen Brewers products to our customers. However, before we can offer their first brew, a Belgian style Wheat Beer, it needs a name.” Luckily help was at hand at the event, with local resident Ian Mulgrew winning the competition to name the beer with his suggestion “Heathen Chemistry”.
Ruth de Miere, of the Haywards Heath Town Team, who organised the event added “We were so pleased to see so many local people attending the Broadway Village Fete and showing such a great interest in the local community. The new brewery is a very welcome addition to the colourful range of traders on The Broadway and we wish them a great future at the heart of our community”.
Ed Perfect, proprietor of the Grape & Grain, and one of the five partners in Heathen Brewers, added that “We were overwhelmed by the interest in our beers and look forward to expanding our range of high quality craft beers to sell to the discerning drinkers in the local area”.
